Help Bring High Holidays into the Desert
Posted by Shannon Rubin on August 08, 2004

In an effort to help service members in Iraq and Afghanistan celebrate the High Holidays, Jews in Green is teaming up with The Jewish Soldier Foundation to send cards, Jewish music CD’s, and Holiday goodies to the troops.  As you can imagine, with Jews being so spread out, services will be few and far between.  But with your help, we believe we can make these most important holidays a little more special.  Click on “full story” to learn how you can help.

What can you do?  To begin with, you can ask your friends and family to write High Holiday cards (or just sign the ones from Hallmark) and send them to us.  I am sure you all understand how important a little card can be in times like these.  If you have the resources, you can also send Jewish music CD’s and high holiday goodies.  If all else fails, we can always use monetary donations to buy cards and other necessities, and to ship all of these things overseas.

Another great way to help would be to get your community involved.  If you belong to a synagogue, ask them to put a message out to their members to collect these things.  This way, your synagogue can ship all of your donations (with a little help from our cash donations) so that we can get them out.

The Jewish Solider Foundation will be handling all donations.  In order to get your cards, CD’s, and goodies out in time, they will need receive all donations before August 25th.  Checks and gifts can be mailed to The Jewish Soldier Foundation at P.O. Box 65216, Baltimore, Md 21209.  Monetary donations can also be made online via the The Jewish Soldier Foundation Website.  If you have questions about how you can help, please contact me, Shannon Rubin
