Is there such a thing as a half an officer?

My son Ethan, who is a LCpl in the reserves, just completed Platoon Leaders Corps - jrs., the first 6-week portion of Marine Officer training. It was at Quantico, and was very tough, though incredibly meaningful to him. If all goes as planned, he’ll continue his training in 2 summers at Quantico, with PLC-srs. We’re very proud of him!

I forgot to ask if Ethan will be continuing in the Reserves or doing some active duty time after he receives his commission.

Not to plug for the Jewish War Veterans, but to plug for the Jewish War Veterans, would Ethan be interested in a free in-service membership?  It would make Norman’s day.

Congratulations again to Ethan.  Whatever his rank status is, he’s still obviously the proud Marine.

Will he be in town for the High Holidays?

Ethan continues as a reservist until after commissioning, which happens after he finishes PLC-srs and graduates college. Unless interrupted by deployments or other unforeseen events, he should finish college in May 2010.

He will not be in town for Rosh Hashana, because it’s mid-week. I hope he’ll attend servces at the Naval Academy. They have a new rabbi, and it would be nice for Ethan to get to know him. I think he’ll be in for Yom Kippur, which happens on a Fri.-Sat.

Yes, Ethan is a very proud Marine. He said there were 8 other Jewish officer candidates who attended the Jewish services when he was at Quantico. Three, including him, were from his platoon! There were probably others there, too, who chose to sleep in on libo, rather than wake up for services on the weekend!

Do you know the rabbi’s name? I’m sure Ethan would like to meet her.

I’m sorry, but I don’t have the newsletter anymore that reported that Rabbi Elson was leaving and this new rabbi was coming on board.

I tried to find her name on the USNA site, but it wasn’t there.
