I am leaving for BCT at Fort Sill, OK next week.  I am a newly observant Jew, and wanted to know if I will be able to take my travel Torah and Siddur with me to Basic? 

I know that the Gideons pass out camo New Testament, but “Religious Items” are not on the packing list for basic.

Also, I was given a gift of a “military issue” Star of David by friends, will I be able to wear this with my dog tags?

Sorry I couldn’t reply in time before you left.  I would think you would be fine to bring those items.  If there is an issue with bringing them in yourself, you could always have them mailed to you once you are there.
