Lt. General, U.S. Air Force
Lt. General Schwartz, a 1973 graduate of the Air Force Academy, is Director of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Washington, D.C. In that role, he assists the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff by supervising, coordinating and providing support for and administering the work of the Joint Staff. He also functions as the Chairman’s point of contact for the National Defense University, and with the Secretary of Defence and other U.S. Government agencies.
General Schwartz is a command pilot with more than 4200 flying hours in a variety of aircraft. He participated as a crewmember in the 1975 airlift evacuation of Saigon and, in 1991, served as Chief of Staff of the Joint OPerations Task Force for Northern Iraq in operation Desert Shield and Desert Storm. In 1997, he led the Joint Task Force that prepared for the noncombatant evacuation of U.S. citizens in Cambodia.
When the JCC (Jewish Community Centers) Armed Forces & Veterans Committe presented its Military Leadership Award to air force Lt. General Norton Schwartz in 2004, the general said he was “Proud to be identified as a Jewish as well as an American military leader.”
Torpy,
You’re famous.
god bless you and all are jewish brothers in the military. Im prode to serve, and be a jew in the US Air Force.
General Schwartz is more than a ‘Jew In The News’. I am privileged to have known him since his first days in USAF Special Ops. He is one of the most extraordinary military leaders in this and the last century.
He is a people person in the mold of WWII’s Soldier’s General- Omar Bradley, a combat general and tactician and logistician extraordinaire.
What makes him unique is that he cares about his people, whether past, present, or future. He has met my parents once and thanked them for their career in the USAF, even though my dad was ‘only’ in supply. He listened to myself and other NCO’s in his commands during my career and also asked how our families were. My son has since joined the USAF and he remembers him from his early days. He can meet a former member 10 years later and remember their name and family members names.
He really cares and it reflects in his rise to General. Without his leadership, many unknown persons around the world in distress may have died in disasters. His leadership in USTRANSCOM reflects his devotion to his country.
He is the type of leader who can call upon any member retired or not, at 3am, and we would be there ready to fly.
On the subject of General Schwartz (and I will cease and go to bed)…
He should be recommended for the Nobel Peace Prize.
Look up the criteria.
He exceeds it.
Anyone game?
Would love to catch up with you! Please email me at the above address.
I have known General Schwartz since 1968. He is the most focused individual I have ever known. The word quit does not exist in his vocabulary. He makes all his hometown friends and relatives so very proud.
We played football together. He was a competitor extremm. H e still is. What an excellent chice to lead the Air Force.
